First Response Training

There are three options offered locally to complete the mandatory requirement for First Response Training (Modules 10A & 10B).

  1. Full Day in-person course
  2. Blended Model doing e-Learning (theory 1), this should be completed via ‘My Membership’. (Navigate to your learning page, login with your ‘My Membership’ login, scroll down to the bottom where you will find a search bar to ‘Explore Learning’, search for First Response e-Learning, Select this, Enrol and follow the steps to complete). This should then be by a zoom session delivered by Hampshire Scouts OR face to face session delivered by District trainers (theory 2) followed by 10B practical validation
  3. External Course (with conversion e-Learning and in person validation if required)

On completion of First Response theory 1 and 2 – (Module 10A) evidence should be retained for the trainer assessing Module 10B. Once both have been completed, First Response will be validated on the Adult Membership System.

Module 10A – theory 1 (online course)

(completed via ‘MyMembership’)

This should be completed via ‘My Membership’. (Navigate to your learning page, login with your ‘My Membership’ login, scroll down to the bottom where you will find a search bar to ‘Explore Learning’, search for First Response e-Learning, Select this, Enrol and follow the steps to complete). The e-Learning will appear and can be completed in the same manner as your safety/safeguarding learning. The expected duration for this is (approx) 2.5-3 hours. The course can be completed in sections and progress saved.

Module 10A – theory 2 (via Zoom)

(delivered by Hampshire Scouts)

Complete an interactive online session with a First Response trainer (via Zoom). Courses can be booked directly with Hampshire Scouts, click here for availability and booking information. Select the “First Response 10A e-learning & zoom” course.

Volunteers must then book onto a 10B drop in validation session.

OR

Module 10A – theory 2 (face-to-face)

(delivered by Biggleswade District Scouts trainers)

Volunteers are invited to attend a face-to-face element covering the content usually delivered during the Hampshire Scouts Zoom session. Volunteers then complete the 10B practical element at the end of this session.

Face-to-face blended theory 2 sessions can be booked via Training & Events.

Module 10B – Practical assessment

(delivered by Biggleswade District Scouts trainers)

Volunteers attend a short face-to-face practical session (approx 15-30 minutes) to validate the practical elements of the training. This will include CPR, recovery position, and the opportunity to discuss with the trainer anything you are unsure about. Module 10A (parts 1 and 2) must be completed prior to attending this training.

Courses can be booked via Training & Events.

On completion, First Response will be fully validated on the Adult Membership System. This will be valid for three years from the completion of the Module 10A course.

External First Aid training & First Response online conversion courses with 10B

Any external first aid course that is set by a reputable body and meets the criteria of the First Response course can be considered a suitable alternative. The full First Response syllabus and course requirements can be found on The Scout Association website. Evidence of completion, for example an attendance certificate, can be submitted to Ben.Whittle@biggleswadedistrictscouts.org.uk for validation.

If the course does not cover an element of the syllabus (for example child CPR or Sepsis/Meningitis) volunteers should make themselves aware of the signs, symptoms and treatment of these conditions. To help meet this requirement Hampshire Scouts have produced three e-learning modules which cover the additional content required for Module 10A & B – First Response.
